Why hockey (and some baseball) is superseding politics on this blog

The Oilers beat San Jose 4-2 to be in the NHL Final Four, meaning that all the participants in the Conference Finals in the National Hockey League this year (Anaheim, Buffalo, Carolina, Edmonton) are teams which were eliminated from the playoffs in 2003/2004 when the last hockey season took place. (As an aside, Edmonton now is the last city name listed in alphabetical order)

Meanwhile, baseball is looking nervously at the 2004/2005 NHL "season" and starting work on refining their own collective bargaining agreement.
