Well, after what seemed like forever, its time for the 900th post on this humble lil' blog o' mine.
A long time of no updates has meant its now a frightful five months since the 800th post on June 27. Still, I did get a few posts in [100 or so, I'm guessing -ed] and time to crunch the frightful statistics: in June, after the 800th post, we had four posts over 3 days, 12 hours, and 40 minutes, for a post every 0.88 days (ie every 21 hours, 10 minutes, 0 seconds). In July, we had 10 posts in 31 days for a post every 3.1 days (ie every 3 days, 2 hours, 24 minutes, 0 seconds). In August, 18 posts in 31 days for a post every 1.72 days (ie every 1 day, 17 hours, 20 minutes, 0 seconds). In September, 14 posts in 30 days for a posting every 2.14 days (ie every 2 days, 8 hours, 34 minutes, 17.143 seconds). October saw a much more respectable 38 posts in 31 days, for a posting every 0.816 days (ie every 19 hours, 34 minutes, 44.211 seconds). As for November, we had 14 posts in 14 days, 19 hours, and 50 minutes for a post every 1.059 days (ie every 1 day, 3 hours, 32.5 minutes). In total, 99 posts in 141.346 days, meaning over the last 100 entries you saw a new post every 1.428 days (ie every 1 day, 10 hours, 15 minutes, 56.51 seconds).
Well, okay, so I fell off on my posting speeds a little bit. Clues as to why can be found here and here.
Coming up in the next 100 posts will be the Third Edge of the Sword Countdown to 1000 posts, as well as the site's 2-year anniversary and all sorts of fun and interesting things. [Rumours of these 'fun and interesting things' being the final Fringe Festival reviews have yet to be revealed, even to me... -ed]
As for now, let's look at the "best in show" since June, as always arranged by category:
Best Reads:
- Sports
- Tom Glavine in 1985 was drafted in both MLB and the NHL. Now another hockey/baseball player emerges.
- The Toronto Sports Network strikes again with perhaps the most boring day of sports coverage ever. (Even though today both TSN and Sportsnet West were playing poker shows at 2pm, which comes close).
- This year's baseball coverage on Third Edge of the Sword wasn't quite as good as last near when I live-blogged a World Series game. In fact, this page is 1/3 of my coverage.
- This is the second third. The final third is here.
- my baseball pools also were poorly covered, but I wrap it all up as nicely as I can.
- With Saskatchewan poised to annoyingly win the Grey Cup, I look ahead to annoying the stubble jumpers with a plan to host the NFL in Edmonton.
- Politics
- A little Alberta nationalism to celebrate what was once known as Dominion Day.
- I, like every other right-wing blogger in Canada (and several left-wing ones) attack the Liberals on Dion's clever plan to chose a mascot.
- I do a little evaluation of the implications of parity with the U.S. dollar, which may turn out to be a strictly 2007 phenomenon.
- In perhaps my most commented post to date, I support the Alberta Alliance's efforts to quash the royalty plan before it happened.
- When Global News reports on the student housing crisis, this blog is the best place to go and get the truth.
- When the Western Standard shut down, I closely examined Ezra's Kool-Aid.
- Ron Paul has lots of supporters, with no support. To diminish the latter and offend the former, I did this. The comments for this one weren't as extensive as I had hoped.
- In another high-commented post, I looked ahead to the municipal elections and didn't like what I saw (or indeed now see).
- I take a rare opportunity to encourage Jack Layton...this time to bring down the Liberals.
- I use Sublime song titles to make another anti-Stelmach post.
- To be fair, I also criticize the Alberta Alliance for its questionable communication strategy.
- In one of my many news roundups I've done lately, I note the real reason for the "anti-Muslim" sentiment regarding voting.
- Harper cuts the GST, and I observe the clever strategy involved and also get to laugh at the Liberals' sudden discovery of Chicago-school economics.
- Now its time to take Layton to the coals again, this time over his proposals for Parliamentary reform, which I observe could have been on the table had his party only supported Parliamentary reform when Stockwell Day supported it.
- Belinda Stronach jokes never get old.
- The BQ has a vaguely pro-American idea. I didn't believe it either.
- Entertainment
- Stanley Kubrick's most famous movie: only shorter. Much shorter.
- A Transformers movie review.
- I reviewed serveral Fringe shows this year. I really really promise to finish them before the Fringe kicks off again next August. Rather than link to every day, I'll just link to the portal page I set up here.
- Sonic 102.9 in Edmonton has a handy feature that tells you what song is playing. It needs some work.
- Why is Cynthia Nixon, the Sex in the City star, being ostracized by Hollywood? (Hint: it has something to do with her alternative lifestyle)
- Racism in Star Trek is easy to find with a clever new formula.
- A Corner Gas set in Saskatchewan is added to a small yet powerful group of sites that include Fort Knox, Area 51, and the Russian sub pens in the Crimea.
- Why is 100.3 The Bear censoring a reference to a female hero?
- Clever insight from the commentary on the Star Trek: Nemesis DVD.
- A Toronto Fringe play becomes a Global TV hit! Well, not really, but it keeps the minorities gainfully employed.
- Firefly's Jewel Staite hails from Vancouver and has a dedicated YouTube following.
- Miscellany
- In perhaps one of the most genius things I ever wrote, I invent a new sexual revolution. I've already signed my ex on board, as well as a female co-worker. Okay, so neither of them are my enemies, so its not yet worked to my gain, but get out there Edmonton guys! They're waiting for you!
- "Deus Ex", the hit computer game, takes another small step closer to reality.
- When Mark Steyn links to a French website, BabelFish almost comes to the rescue. (Note: Not in the "teleporting you to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe" as the Earth explodes sense)
- "North of the 49th Parallel" has entered the lexicon so pervasively it took Third Edge of the Sword to examine how blatently inaccurate it really is.
- Why does Newfoundland still have problems filling jobs?
Well, here's to the next 100 posts being filled slightly faster than the previous ones. Of course, it would help if I did these reviews within 10 days of the previous posting...
